In Norse mythology the God Odin kept two ravens "Huginn" and "Muninn" whos names translate as Thought and Memory. Each day he sent them out into the world to see what was happening.
This painting allowed me to revisit one of my favourite subjects, and the light of dawn breaking allowed me to present them in suitably mythic style. For me, this painting is all about the opportunities and experiences of a new day.

This painting was inspired by the collective noun for ravens - a conspiracy. It is also something of a commentary on town gossips!

Ravens fascinate me as a subject. Their recurring mythic connections in Western Culture are undoubtedly inspired by the high intelligence that is so evident in their every look. This painting gave me a chance to explore a different creative direction, include one of my favourite birds and incorporate a tribute to one of my favourite poems - The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe. It doesn't get more fun than that!
