I am very much a bird nerd! From the majesty of eagles to the patience of a heron they intrigue me in all their individuality, behaviours, colours and shapes. My year is measured by them, from the arrival of the first hummingbird marking the beginning of spring, to the departure of the swallows and many other birds in the fall.
When you paint anything in a realistic fashion it forces you to look at it more closely and for longer than might be considered 'normal'. This means you are exposed to the perfection of design in nature where every little feather, scale or eyelash serves a purpose. It is inconceivably elegant and endlessly fascinating and for me birds, in all their variety, embody that diversity of design.
