Bald Eagles are such iconic birds, but it was the steely stare of this subject that really drew me to it. I had a lot of fun playing with a very narrow depth of field to focus on the eye and beak. Try a staring match, I guarantee you blink first...

I was lucky enough to get reference photos of this amazing pair as they viewed the area around their nest site, on the Kootenay River, not a 100yds from my mailbox

The wildness of a soaring bald eagle defending his domain from intruders seemed the perfect match to the rugged skyline of the Canadian Rockies.

This was an unusually small painting for me and so a new challenge. Created as a postcard size painting for the DSWF Wildlife Artist of the Year exhibition.
